In this thread, I'm jotting down some ideas that have come through my head that are intriguing enough to look at further, but which I don't want to spend time on right at the moment. Comments welcome, as are other people's brainstorms (but if you're not imposing the kind of avoid-digressions discipline that I've realized I need on yourself, feel free to put it in a separate thread and flesh it out).

Spellcasting: add new damage track for Drain that doesn't produce penalties, rebalance spells so that drain is harder to avoid. The issue right now is that taking Drain at all is really bad, but that means that any spell whose probability of causing drain is low enough to be considered "bread and butter" is likely to be nearly free—you're just taking a long-term risk of getting unlucky. As a result, there's a relatively narrow margin between free and useless in spellcasting. Another track might result in a more strategic-resource view of Drain. The downsides include increasing damage tracks and having a damage track that acts differently with regard to Drain.
